Advani brandishes Art 356
The government would use Article 356 when necessary ``as it is in some cases'', Home Minister L K Advani said yesterday. The statement is significant in the light of the persistent demand by the Samata Party and the BJP's Bihar unit for dismissal of the Bihar government.

BJP's partners want more Cabinet berths
Coalition partners of the BJP-led government have demanded their pound of flesh in the forthcoming expansion of the Union Council of Ministers. Biju Janata Dal leader Vijay Mahapatra said more ministers should be inducted from his party to give adequate representation to Orissa. Similarly, Akali Dal leader and Union Minister Surjeet Singh Barnala also asked for more representation for his party in the government.

Clarify position on Ayodhya or quit, Mulayam tells Buta
Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav has asked former Union Home Minister Buta Singh to clarify his role in the permission given for ``shilanyas'' at Ayodhya in 1989 or else end his association with the Rashtriya Loktantrik Morcha. The SP has written to Singh saying that he should clarify his position and keep away from the RLM rally in Mumbai today.
