PUNE, SEPT 14: Senior members of Brashtachar Virodhi Andolan today called upon the youth to take initiative in leading the anti-corruption movement ``which had become more significant after the arrest of the noted social worker Anna Hazare.''The Andolan took out an awareness rally in the city in support of Hazare. The rally started from Tilak Road and converged near Mahatma Gandhi's statue at Pune railway station after passing through various parts of the city.
Addressing the rally, district president of Andolan K D Pawar said that everyone should put up a stiff fight against the wide-spread corruption in the country. He called upon the youth to launch massive efforts to eradicate corruption from all walks of life.
Speaking on the occasion, social worker Madhukar Nirfarake said that Anna Hazare's anti-corruption movement had begun to gain proportions similar to the Quit India movement in 1942. Meanwhile, the Andolan will carry out a two-day campaign in the district on September 14 and 15 to createawareness about its anti-corruption movement and to support Hazare.
In another event, Rashtraseva Parishad today observed a token hunger strike near Maharishi Karve Statue Hazare in Kothrud to protest against the sentencing of Hazare to a three-month simple imprisonment for defamation of Social Welfare Minister Babanrao Gholap.
