DHAKA, SEPT 14: The International Cricket Council is `closely monitoring' the post-flood situation in Bangladesh which is to host the Wills International Cup tournament next month.According to ICC president Jagmohan Dalmiya the nature of the current natural disaster for Bangladesh -- the unprecedented floods and subsequent health hazards were matters of concern for the apex body for cricket even as work on the Wills tournament was on schedule as far as infrastructure was concerned.
``We are closely monitoring these points of concern,'' Dalmiya, who left here yesterday for Calcutta after reviewing the on-going preparations for the tournament, told reporters.
Dalmiya, along with ICC chief executive David Richards and tournament's event manager Asif Iqbal, inspected the Bangabandhu National Stadium, the venue of the tournament, and expressed satisfaction with the preparations for the tournament in which nine Test playing nations will participate.
He said the local cricket authority has maintainedeverything on schedule. ``The lighting system and a scoreboard of international standard and media facilities of the highest level to cope with the presence of a large number of media personnel to cover the meet are satisfactory.''
Replying to persistent questions whether ICC was considering moving the venue in view of the devastating floods, Dalmiya said there was no reason to think about it now unless otherwise compelled by factors beyond human control.
``To arrange an event of this magnitude, it took ICC a lot of time and adjustments to busy scheduled of participating nations. Mega events cannot be put aside unless the conditions are beyond control,'' he said.
