Kuala Lumpur, Sept 14: Nineteen-year-old Abhinn Shyam Gupta took on the hero's role as he guided India to a 3-2 win over England in the men's badminton team championship at the Commonwealth Games today. Indian women suffered a loss to Malaysia in the country's second super league encounter.The Indian men, who had lost to favourites Malaysia 1-4 last night, now have a good chance of a silver if they beat New Zealand this evening while women play England. Bronze medals were already assured after reaching the superleague stage.
With the doubles following the first singles, Malaysia drew 1-1 as Chor Hooi Yee and Lim Pek Siah beat Manjusha Kanwar and Archana Deodhar 15-5, 15-3. Neelima Chaudhary lost to Law Pei 6-11, 3-11 and Malaysia settled the issue when their doubles pair of Quay Joanne and Amin Noorhasshikin beat Madhumita Bisht and PVV Lakshmi 15-11, 15-6.
A consolation win came for India as Manjusha Kanwar fought out Mee Fen Ng 11-8, 6-11, 11-2 in the third singles.
