Industrialist dies at 75
Noted industrialist Siddharth Lalbhai died at Atul near Valsad after a brief illness on Sunday. He was 75. He leaves behind his wife Vimla Lalbhai, son Sunil and daughters Swati and Taral. The eldest son of the late Kasturbhai of the illustrious Lalbhai family, he was educated at UDCT, Mumbai, and did his post-graduation from Brooklyn Polytechnic, USA. He is credited with the industrialisation of Atul and is associated with a number of philanthropic works.

11 detained
The Police on Monday evening detained 11 people, including former Mayor Jayanti Raoji Patel and former Deputy Mayor Chirag Zhaveri, when they tried to block traffic near the Mahatma Gandhi Nagar Gruh in protest against the spiralling prices of essential commodities. They were later released. The programme was staged under the auspices of the Vadodara Moghwari Virodhi Sangarsh Samiti.

Date changed
The 23rd batch of the Post Graduate Diploma course in Export-Import Management of The Indian Institute of Export will commence from September 22 instead of September 15, according to an Institute statement.

Lt-gen's visit
Lieutenant-General A S Khanna, AVSM, VrC, Chief of Staff, Headquarters Southern Command, Pune, and his wife, Meera Khanna, will visit EME School on Tuesday. He will be received and taken around the school by Major-General M C Sebastin, Commandant, EME School.

Pizza contest
The Greater Baroda Junior Chamber will organise a `Open Baroda Cream Corner's Pizzeria Pizza Eating Competition' on Tuesday at Cream Corner, Emperor Building, Fatehgunj. Hindi Diwas
Staff members from the city branch of the Syndicate Bank and trainees from its various branches in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, celebrated `Hindi Diwas' on Monday. A `Rajbhasha Shield' was awarded to Deshbandhu Rajesh Tewari, Faculty Member (Hindi) of the Syndicate Bank Staff Training College.
