Basak, Kasturi top seeds

NEW DELHI, September 14: In the absence of India's top two players, Chetan P Baboor and S.Raman who are away in Sweden, Arup Basak of Petroleum Sports Control Board has been given the top billing in the men's section of the inaugural All India Deen Dayal Memorial (Prize Money) Ranking Table Tennis Tournament which commences at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium here tomorrow.Reigning national women's champion Kasturi Chakraborty of Bengal is the top seed in both the women's and girls singles of the Rs 1.30 lakh prize money tournament. The men's winner will get Rs 30,000 and the runner-up Rs 15,000 while the women's champion will receive Rs 15,000 and the losing finalist Rs 10,000. Some of the leading national players who will be seen in action include Sunil Babas, S.Sriram, Deepak Thukal (men's section) and N R Indu, Anindita Chakraborty, M S Mythili, Mantu Ghosh and N Arul Selvi (women's section). The first two days of the five-day tournament will be devoted to qualifying matches and the India-ranked players will be seen in action from September 17 onwards.
