Maharashtra clears housing scheme for poor
Despite strong opposition from top bureaucrats, the Maharashtra Cabinet yesterday approved the multicrore Shivshahi Punarvasan Prakalp to provide free houses to two lakh slumdwellers in the metropolis before the year 2000. On their part, senior bureaucrats dubbed it as the most ill-advised decision taken by the alliance government so far.

Top bureaucrats have expressed strong displeasure over the manner in which the Maharashtra Cabinet today approved the multi-crore Shivshahi Punarvasan Prakalp (SSPP), saying, it was the most ill-advised decision after the alliance government came to power in March 1995.

Donning a new role: Lakshmi Parvati in film
The acting bug seems to have bitten another politician in Andhra Pradesh. Lakshmi Parvati, wife of actor-turned-politician late N T Rama Rao and the president of NTR-TDP, is the latest to join the bandwagon. Announcing her screen debut on Monday, which was also her birthday, Lakshmi Parvati said she would be donning the role of a politician in the a film titled Prema Veerudu.
