MUMBAI, SEPT 16: Heavy rains lashed Mumbai on Wednesday even as the monsoon shows no sign of abatement. For a second time in three days, Central Railway services reeled under the onslaught of the rains.A total of 60 Up and Down CR locals on the harbour line were cancelled, and eight main line trains bound for Khopoli and Karjat partially cancelled. Power tripping on the down line at Wadala station and severe waterlogging at Sion, Wadala and Kurla also delayed services. Many trains were diverted on the main line as the down track on the harbour line remained shut.
Further down the line, the Bangalore-bound Udayan Express smashed its pentograph between Bhivpuri and Karjat stations this morning. This train was later pulled by a diesel locomotive till Karjat.
By 2 pm all the defects had been set right, however, the bunching of trains led to a delay in services by 10-15 minutes until late evening. The first Bandra-bound local left CST at around 6 pm after half a dozen trains were left standing on thetracks.
According to the Colaba Weather bureau, Colaba recorded 7.3 mm rainfall, while Santacruz recorded 46.6 mm rainfall.
The season's total recorded at Colaba was 2014.3 mm, while Santacruz recorded 1991.00 mm rainfall, an official of the observatory said.
Meanwhile, heavy rains continued to lash the central suburbs of Kalyan, Dombivli, Ambernath and Badlapur for the third consecutive day. The showers, which began at around 6.30 am, hadn't stopped till late evening. The Kalu and Ulhas rivers are nearing the danger mark and low lying areas in Kalyan and Dombivli were waterlogged for the third day today.
