NEW DELHI, September 17: What does a fashion show and defence production have in common? Plenty, according to Secretary Prabir Sen Gupta, department of defence production. Sen Gupta was the chief guest at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) show at Siri Fort Auditorium today.Sen Gupta said: ``A bureaucrat has to be multi-faceted. I was earlier with the Ministry of Petroleum. Now, I am with Defence Production. One has to be interested in everything.'' ``These events show our achievements in the field of fashion. And these achievements are very important for the country because of technological and trade reasons.'' When asked, he said: ``I do not know how I was selected for this event.'' On show were the creations of the students of Fashion Design and Clothing Technology 1997-98 batch titled Fashion Forever. Those who survived the ordeal of an unlit parking lot with menacingly impatient guards and killing humidity, were there to watch it. And Delhiites have a strong constitution, if the strength of the unseated audience in the packed hall was any gauge.
The aisles were clogged, in stark contrast with the models walking the roomy ramp. It was easy to spot who had created what. Those chewing on their pencils nervously in one corner of the auditorium had something to do with the models walking the ramp. But there were smiles all around as the show came off well and the applause wholehearted.
Also present for the fashion show was Shyamal Ghosh, Secretary, Textile Ministry, and Chairman, NIFT.
