Kartik excels in Vikhe Patil's triumph

PUNE, Sept 17: Vikhe Patil school, despite a poor batting display, registered a huge 127 runs victory over Anglo Urdu boys school with a single handed heroics of all-rounder and opener Kartik Bhatiya in the Pune District Multi Games Sports Council (PDMGSC) conduct U-17 Vinoo mankad cricket tournament here today.

Vikhe Patil boys, in their innings, could not stand up against the tight bowling from the opponents side, especially of Omprakash Sharma (3/34) and Ankur Raut (2/16). If there was any one who troubled the Anglo boys, it was Kartik Bhatiya only.

Soon after Kartik Bhatiya's opening partner Abhinav Pande's (6) dismissal, other batsmen followed him with non reaching the double figure. Bhatiya at one side tried hard to stabilise his team but could not find a proper support in any of his colleagues. However, Bhatiya with his individual 94 put Vikhe Patil in a comfortable position, seting up a 178 runs challenge.

Bhatiya once again proved his mettle, when he led his sides bowling atack claiming four wickets against three runs off 3.4 overs. He along with Pratik Zhanjire (2/2) and Abhinav Pande, Nikhil L Kulkarni and Nikhil G Kulkarni (one wicket each) restricted Anglo boys to 51 in 17.4 overs.

Vikhe Patil School: 178 for 9; 20 overs (Kartik Bhatiya 94, S Shinde 14, Omprakash Sharma 3/34, Ankur Raut 2/16, Mahesh Shinde 1/33, Ashish Mahatre 1/38, Sumit Bhujwal 1/21) bt Anglo Urdu: 51; 17.4 overs (Mahesh Shinde 5, Omprakash Sharma 5, Kartik Bhatiya 4/3, Pratik Zhanjire 2/2, Abhinav Pande 1/5, Nikhil L Kulkarni 1/4, Nikhil G Kulkarni 1/1).

State tennis
Junior Tennis Promotion (JTP), Sangli will organise the first Ambari Club State ranking tennis tournament at the Ambari Club courts from October 19 to 24.

Parish soccer
Inter-Parish dawn to dusk football tournament organised by the the Strikers Football Club (SFC), Yerwada will he played at the Don Bosco Church ground on September 20.
