Cop foils attempt on builder's life

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, SEPT 18: A murder attempt on a city builder was foiled by his constable bodyguard, who was injured in the process.

At around 4.30 pm today, five unidentified men barged into the Commerce House office of one builder Ramesh Shah. Constable Uttam Baburao Chavan, in charge of Shah's security, had gone outside at that time. However, before the intruders could enter Shah's cabin, he returned and took out his revolver. One of them was standing behind him and he hit Chavan with a heavy object, injuring him.

The unidentified men made good their escape after pocketing the constable's revolver. Chavan was rushed to St George Hospital, where he is under treatment.

Shah had been receiving threats for the past several months and he had registered a complaint at the Tardeo police station. Chavan was then appointed for his security.
