Bhubaneswar, Sept 19: The State Government on Friday refuted the allegations of former Director General of Police AB Tripathy in his affidavit which he submitted to the Orissa High Court on Wednesday.Contesting the claims of Tripathy that he was offered the posts of vice-chancellor, Sambalpur University and vice-chairman, Cuttack Development Authority, chief secretary S B Mishra in a statement said no such appointment was offered to the former DGP. On the other hand, Tripathy had requested him to recommend his appointment to the government as chairman of the Orissa Public Service Commission which fell vacant on the retirement of Sovan Kanungo, Mishra added.
The chief secretary had explained to Tripathy that it would be difficult to recommend his name to government as two other members of the commission, F Rasool and SR Pal were continuing as senior-most members.
He also refuted the statement of Tripathy that the chief secretary had telephoned the former to provide VVIP treatment to the former AdvocateGeneral Indrajit Ray if he was sent to jail. A separate clarification from the Home department said that the home secretary Sanjib Hota was not at Puri on July 14, 1997 to witness the return car festival as mentioned in the affidavit. Hota was in his office that day.
Tripathy in his affidavit had claimed that he came to know about the Anjana Mishra molestation case from Special Inspector General of Police (Administration) BB Mishra on July 15, 1997 even though he was present at Puri on the return car festival day.
The Home Department had also refuted the allegation of Tripathy that PR Mohanty, director of State forensic Laboratory was transferred from the forensic science service to Orissa Forest Development Corporation as General Manger (Vigilance) despite opposition from the former DGP.
The clarification said that Mohanty was posted there to avoid some administrative inconvenience. Prior to Mohanty, RK Sachar, an IPS officer of 1965 batch was posted in OFDC. As the managing director of the corporationwas of 1968 batch officer of the Indian Forest Service, posting of Sachar under him was found inconvenient, it added.
The crime branch of the police has also refuted the allegations of the former DGP that it had in possession of recorded evidence of any women allegedly taken to the residence of the chief minister for perverse sexual acts.
