16-yr-old abducted, raped near college

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, Sept 20: Two youths, one of them an autorickshaw driver who ferries school students, were yesterday arrested for allegedly abducting and raping a teen-aged collegian.

Autorickshaw driver Vijay Shankar Vanjare (27) and his accomplice Rajesh Prakash Ingewar (18) (both from Kamraj Nagar slums in Yerawada) allegedly abducted a 16-year-old girl from Yerawada around 11.15 am. They took the girl, studying in the twelfth standard, to a room near the St Mira's College with the help of a youth whose identity is yet to be ascertained, police said.

Vanjare and Ingewar were arrested after the girl lodged a first information report (FIR) at the Yerawada police station late last evening.

Meanwhile, a hunt has been launched to track down their unidentified accomplice.

The FIR lodged by the girl stated that she has been going to college in Vanjare's autorickshaw for several months. Usually, several other students residing in the Maharashtra Housing Board Colony accompany her in the autorickshaw. However, she was travelling alone in the vehicle on Saturday as the other students had morning classes.

According to the FIR, Ingewar and the unidentified youth were accompanying Vanjare when he came to pick up the girl on Saturday morning. The automan gagged the girl when she opposed to travelling with his friends and asked Ingewar to drive the autorickshaw.

The girl claims that she was assaulted by the trio after reaching the room near the college. The three abductors also threatened to murder her brother if she lodged a complaint against them just before they set her free around 3 pm, she alleged.

However, police said, the girl informed her parents about the incident after returning home. The parents took her to the police station where the FIR was lodged and she was sent to the Sassoon hospital for a medical check up, they added.
