Govt doctor kidnapped in Tripura

AGARTALA, Sept 21: A government doctor was today abducted by the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) in Tripura making him the second such professional to be kidnapped in the State since July last.

The militants stopped a passenger jeep at Borakha, 10 km from here, and abducted Dr Partha Pratim Majumdar at gun point without causing any harm to other passengers, police said.

Majumder, the only son of a retired superintendent of police was on his way to Borakha hospital in west district to attend duty. He is the brother-in-law of Calcutta-based BBC correspondent Subir Bhowmick.

The ultras have reportedly demanded huge ransom for his release, the police said. Army and para military forces have launched search operations in the nearby areas, the police said.
