PCB gives top priority to roads

PUNE, Sept 21: The Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) has decided to accord top priority to widening and asphaltation of cantonment roads, replacement of old pipelines and an underground drainage system as part of its ambitious sewage plan and installation of streetlights this year.

A special meeting chaired by vice-president Vinod Sanghvi recently proposed the annual budget estimates of Rs. 14 crore. The finance committee decided to accord top priority to renovation of the old cantonment building and initiating the first phase of the underground sewage plan in civil areas, cantonment executive officer J. Sharma said. The board had already appointed a consultant for the purpose, he added.

A sum of Rs 14 lakh has been allocated to increase a classroom each in Ravindranath Tagore, Veer Savarkar and New Modikhana schools. Another Rs 14 lakh have been earmarked to tile the pavements while Rs 7 lakh have been earmarked to clean up public toilets.

A few years ago, it was noticed that borewells had been damaged. The fiannce committee has decided to repair a borewell in every ward and fit a new hand pump.

The board has allocated Rs 10 lakh for an electric crematorium at an estimated cost of Rs 6 crore. The budget also provides funds for erecting streetlights in Solapur Bazaar and other areas. The budget is expected to be approved at the general body meeting tomorrow.
