ISI suspects duped the military in Mumbai

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, Sept 21: The two suspected Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) agents, who were arrested for impersonating the aide de camp (ADC) to the President of India, had allegedly visited some Mumbai-based military establishments as army officials.

A special police team will soon go to Mumbai to probe the matter, said assistant public prosecutor (APP) A.A. Jaybhay before judicial magistrate (first class) V.V. Kankanwadi on Monday. Investigation has shown that the duo had duped some people in Mumbai by posing as army officials, he added. He said the duo had got fake documents printed at Bhagalpur. A police team has left for Bhagalpur to quiz the owner of the press.

Irshadur Rehman (25) and Mohammed Yusuf Yakub Sipra (36) were produced before a magistrate by the crime branch on Monday afternoon. The magistrate extended their police custody till September 25.

Pointing out that the two imposters had forged some railway passes bearing the seal of the Railway Ministry, Jaybhay said the police would despatch a team to inquire with railway authorities.

According to Armed Forces Medical College officials, Rehman had never been admitted to the AFMC.

Rehman had claimed that he had been at the AFMC. However, he had said, he had to leave the course after the medical board found him to be a patient of brain migraine and thus ``medically unfit.''

The investigation has now encompassed a wide area including Mumbai, Delhi and Bhagalpur. The APP requested the magistrate to extend the police custody by five days.

Defence counsel Muzaffar B.S. said the duo had been remanded to ten-day police custody. The period was sufficient to complete all investigations, he argued.

Irshadur Rehman, who hails from Bhagalpur, and Sipra from Mumbai were arrested on September 11. They were produced before a magistrate on September 12 and remanded to police custody till September 21.
