As a first step, Kane demanded explanations from office staff who come into office after 11 a.m. on Monday. Officials at the university office informed Express Newsline on Monday that this was the first time that any Vice Chancellor had taken the initiative to look into the register and check the time of entry of every official in the office.

Apart from streamlining administrative tasks, the vice-chancellor made a surprise round of the boys' hostel in the main campus and enquired about the living conditions of students in these hostels.

He reportedly also had lunch in the hostel and later asked the hostel authorities to submit in writing the problems faced by the students so far as lodging and fooding were concerned.

Kane also told the hostel authorities to look into the condition of bathrooms in the various hostels and advised them to repair rooms that needed immediate attention.
