Bodies recovered
The police on Monday recovered the bodies of two persons from the Pandesara and Katargam areas in the city. The dead body of an unidentified beggar, aged about 70, was recovered by the Pandesara police from near the Navsarjan Vidyalaya in the Pandesara Housing Board area and sent to the New Civil Hospital on Monday morning. According to the police, the beggar may have died of some illness. In a separate case, the Katargam police said that the body of an unidentified 35-year-old man was fished out from the Tapi near the Katargam Water Works. Cases under CrPC 174 have been registered at the police stations. The official death toll due to the floods was put at 19 on Monday.

Fatal fall
One Dilip Somji Jadhav, a 45-year-old resident of Udhna Yard died on Monday in the New Civil hospital, where he was admitted on September 16, after he fell off the stairs in the area. According to the Udhna police, who have registered a case of accidental death, Jadhav was getting down from the stairs of Sonamona Company when he slipped and fell, sustaining head injuries. He was since being treated at the New Civil hospital.

Hit-and-run
A youth was injured and received multiple fractures and another sustained minor injuries when the motorcycle on which they were travelling was hit by a chhakda coming from the opposite direction at Nana Varachha on Sunday evening, the Kapodara police said. One Jayesh Patel, 27, sitting pillion on a motorcycle was hit by a chhakda (GJ 5 Y 4464) and received fractures while the chhakda driver fled the scene, the police added. A case under sections of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicle Act has been registered and is being investigated.
