DoT considers offering arbitrator role to TRAI
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is actively considering offering the role of an arbitrator to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in settling disputes between the Department and private operators in the field of basic, cellular, paging and other services. A note proposing to bestow the status of an arbitrator on the TRAI was discussed at the last meeting of the Telecom Commission.

Fresh Asian currency turmoil likely, says IMF annual report
The IMF has warned that global capital markets face major risks such as paralysis in Japan, overvalued US and European stock markets and prospects for even broader financial instability. The IMF, in its annual report, predicted that unless Japan acted decisively to shore up its banking sector and stimulate its economy, a new round of Asian currency turbulence could be set in motion.

Contracting norms for 100% export units eased
The Central Board of Excise and Customs has liberalised provisions relating to sub-contracting in respect of 100 per cent EOUs, EPZs and EHTPs. These units can now give sub-contracts to units in domestic tariff area (DTA) and also accept job work from the DTA units.
