MUMBAI, SEPT 25: Encouraged by overwhelming response, National Geographic, the television launched two months ago announced increased focus on the Indian market.``The ever increasing support from the industry and from Indian viewers has reinforced our faith in the demand for a channel of our genre,'' said Michael March, Launch Managing Director, National Geographic Channel Asia (NGCA) today.
A business enterprise of the National Geographic Television (NGT) and National Broadcasting Company (NBC), the channel is aired to 5.5 million Indian homes.
The channel also announced the launch of its One Week in India series which will be premiered during October 5-9, 1998. Tiger's Eye, King Cobra, The Great Indian Railway are some titles to be covered under the series.
National Geographic's Greg Marshall, marine biologist, film producer and inventor of the Crittercam -- a device that can be attached harmlessly to marine creatures to record sound and data and yield video images -- was also present.Marshall, Dereck and Beverly Joubert -- acclaimed filmmakers on African wildlife and authors of Hunting With The Moon -- are scheduled to address a public meet at the NCPA on September 26.
The National Geographic Television which won eight Emmy Awards this year reaches 25 million homes world wide.
