NEW DELHI, SEPT 25: The National Commission for Women (NCW) will tomorrow send a two-member investigating team to Navapara village in Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh to probe into Wednesday's gangrape of four nuns. The NCW, in a release today, urged the MP government to nab all the culprits and ensure immediate relief to the victims.
It pointed out that the State topped the list as far as atrocities against women were concerned. The probe will be conducted by NCW members Indira Basavaraj and Syeda Saiyidain Hameed.
Expressing shock at the heinous incident, the commission deplored that women's safety and security was being accorded the lowest priority in society today.
The commission regretted that though it had made 213 recommendations to check atrocities against women, several of them pertaining to rape, they were simply ``languishing'' with the Centre.
Under the NCW Act, the commission was empowered to call for investigations into specific problems arising out of discrimination and atrocitiesagainst women and identify the constraints.
