CHENNAI, SEPT 25: The September 27 function to felicitate Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on his 74th birthday has been shifted to the multipurpose indoor stadium in the wake of the Supreme Court's directive restricting the Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council (TNFPC) from using the football field and the athletic track at the modern Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in the city.Stadium officer and the TNFPC sources told UNI today that arrangements were being made at the indoor stadium, adjacent to the main stadium to felicitate Karunanidhi for his contribution to the Tamil film industry by wielding the pen as story, screen play and dialogue writer of repute.
In the wake of a special leave petition filed by Karunanidhi's bete noire and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalitha against the order of Madras high court permitting the use of the main stadium imposing some conditions, a three-member bench of the SC had yesterday asked the TNFPC to confine the celebrations only to the gallery area of thestadium without affecting the football field and the synthetic track.
This would not be the first time that a film industry related function is being held at the indoor stadium. For the last two years, the annual film awards function of a leading Tamil film magazine Cinema Express is being conducted at the indoor stadium.
