Series of murders rock Mumbai and suburbs

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, SEPT 25: Two brutal murders in the last three days have rocked the Mira-Bhayander area with fear spreading among residents about the rising crime rate in the satellite townships.

Narendra Bishnoi was killed just outside the Bhayander Railway station (W) near the crowded autorickshaw stand. A narcotic dealer, Bishnoi had turned an approver two years ago thus incurring the wrath of his rivals.

However, the grisly murder of a MBBS doctor Dr Ali Azimuddin Kherdiwala (25) has rocked the Mira-Bhayander area. He was stabbed to death by his wife Rehmat's paramour Aquib Khan at his residence at Pushpak building, near Panchratna park on the Mira-Bhayander cross road late Wednesday.

According to Dy. SP (Vasai Zone) Ravindra Sengaonkar, Aqib Khan killed the doctor and then cut his body into four pieces which was dumped at two different spots at Bhayander (E). Khan and the doctor's wife Rehmat hatched a plot to kill him, Sengaonkar added.

The police have sealed Khan's flat and recovered two choppers. Therewere blood stains in the apartment's living room. The killing took place on late Wednesday night and the police were tipped about a rexin bag lying along the Mira-Bhayander road only on Thursday afternoon.

Earlier, Rehmat had lodged a complaint about her husband missing even when she was aware that Dr Ali had accompanied Aquib Khan for dinner at his house. Aquib invited the Kherdiwala couple for dinner but Rehmat, according to the police, refused at the last minute thus allowing Dr Ali to join him alone.

Both Khan and Dr. Kherdiwala had consumed liquor before Khan stabbed the doctor at seven places on his chest, stomach and back, police added.

Dy SP Ravindra Sengaonkar said the killing is the handwork of Aquib Khan who claimed he was a travel agent and a passport consultant. S. Muzzafar Hussain, Congress Councillor of the MBMC from Mira Road, said the new division of area by the formation of the new police station at Mira Road has hampered police work.

Muzaffar also pointed out that police harassmentis on the rise as policemen are turning to be extortionists by demanding hafta from anybody they came across. The sub inspector at the Mira Road police station, Nilesh Sawant, was not available. Several attempts to contact him on Friday proved futile.

Meanwhile, the police are yet to trace Dr Ali's head. Aquib Khan, the prime suspect in the case, is feared to have escaped to Ujjain, sources revealed.

In the city, three persons were killed in three separate incidents in the last 24 hours. In the first incident, a 20-year-old youth was beaten to death by three persons at Mulund after he was alleged to have teased the sister of one of the accused.

According to the police, on September 18 Shashikant Kode was assaulted by his friends Navnath Sutar (20), Rakesh Boriwale (19), Nanu More (23). Police said that the deceased had allegedly teased Sutar's sister. Kode was rushed to the Mulund General Hospital but was declared dead before admission. The Mulund police have arrested all the three accused and furtherinvestigation is in progress.

In the second incident, a 20-year-old man was stabbed to death by three persons at Goregaon railway station on Thursday. Police said Kaliya was attacked by one Babu (29) along with two others with knives. Kaliya was stabbed on the chest while his friend Yogesh Gowda (30) suffered a fractured leg in the assault. While Kaliya died on the spot Gowda has been admitted to Cooper Hospital.

Investigations by the police revealed that Kaliya was said to have teased Babu's wife provoking the attack. No arrests have been made so far.
