CHANDIGARH, Sept 25: What goes up must come down and true to the adage, onion prices in the City today dropped by Rs 15 per kg after registering an all-time high of Rs 40 per kg.The wholesale rate of onions climbed down to Rs 22 per kg from last week's Rs 27 per kg. From the alternative of "onion-paste", the house-makers again switched over to onions today. However, in many sectors, the rehriwallahs continued to charge Rs 34 from ignorant customers.
Pahadi potatoes, meanwhile, maintained their price-ascendancy; selling at Rs 15 per kg in the Sector 26 market. The other variety was available for Rs 10 per kg. Peas, the favourite among winter vegetables, was selling at Rs 35 per kg -- the phari price. Even capsicum and turnip was available for the same price.
Lemons continued to reign high at Rs 40 per kg, and on the top of the price chart was coriander, at Rs 100 per kg in the retail market. Among the winter vegetables, lady finger is available at Rs 12 per kg. Green chillies continued to be a "hot" item at Rs 30 per kg.
Meanwhile, the customers had a rough time at the Sector 26 market, which was reduced to a huge garbage dump. Many vehicles could also be seen stuck in the post-rain slush in the area.
