NEW DELHI, September 25: Three goals in arrears at the interval against BRC Danapur, Mizoram's Electric Veng Middle School staged a remarkable recovery to draw level at 3-3 at the end of regulation period and then won the match 8-6 via tie-breaker to enter the final of Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament (sub-junior boys) at Ambedkar Stadium here today.In the final, to be played on Monday, the Mizoram team will take on SAIL-adopted Sector IX A + 2 High School, Bokaro. The Bokaro boys took the measure of SAI-adopted Sukanta Nagar Vidyaniketan by a solitary goal scored in the extra-time.
The Danapur school took the lead in the third minute through Sudhir Khaiko who shot the ball in from a cross by Bijoy Thapa. Bikash Gurung increased the lead in the 24th minute with a solo effort. Three minutes later, Biplav Dhar scored a goal as the Danapur team went 3-0 ahead. The Mizoram boys came a rejuvenated side after the interval. Three minutes after change of ends, S.Nalsawthianga reduced the margin while lalhming Sanga added another to further reduce the margin. S.Nalsawmthianga scored his second goal to make it 3-3.
The 15 minutes of extra time failed to end the deadlock. In the tie-breaker, Mizoram converted all the five shots while Danapur could convert only three.
In the earlier semifinal, substitute Anindu Samanta of Bokaro scored the match-winner in extra-time when he put the ball in after a flag-kick. There will be no matches on saturday and Sunday. Monday will witness sub-junior boys final while the junior final will be played the next day.
