Gen Raj, Motibagh qualify

NEW DELHI, September 25: Gen Raj School (Hauz Khas) topped group A and qualified for the knockout when they defeated CRPF School (Rohini) 2-1 in the Liumca soccer tournament at Modern School here today. The winners have collected nine points from three matches. Mung Singh (20th minute) and Jayant Sarin (23rd) were the goal-getters for the winners while Bhup Singh reduced the margin with a fine left-footer in the closing minutes of the game.

Former champions Government Senior Secondary School, Moti Bagh No. 1 also qualified for the knockout when their pool G opponents APS Noida failed to turn up for their game. Moti Bagh finished their league engagements with seven points from three encounters. St Columba's who recorded their third straight win, beating Modern School (Vasant Vihar) 3-1 topped group F to qualify for the knockout.

In an inconsequential match n pool B, Upras Publc School beat National Victor 6-0. Mount St Mary's and Kiran Memorial Col Satsangi School have already made the grade from the pool. The tournament organisers scratched Apex Public School from the competition as three of their players were found overage.

Hat-trick of title wins for DPS
DPS, RK Puram made it three-in-a-row when they defeated St John's School by a solitary goal in the final of Fr Peter Mermier memorial invitational football tournament at St Francs De Sales School (Janakpuri) today. Striker Karan Sud scored the all-important goal in the first half.

Special awards were given to the following: Best goalkeeper: R Siddharth (St Francis), Defender: Vicky Kumar (St John's), Midfielder: Dvanshu (CRPF School), Striker: Karan Sud (DPS, RK Puram), Fair Play: Mount St Mary's.

CBSE football: Hosts Dayawati Modi Public School (Modinagar) moved into the quarter finals of CBSE (East Zone cluster 3) football tournament defeating Dewan Public School (Meerut) 4-3 via tie-breaker at Modinagar.Translam Academy (Meerut) beat St Atulanand Convent School (Varanasi) 1-0 to enter the last eight.

Other pre-quarter final results: Greenwood Sr Sec School (Rampur) bt Bishop Conard Public School (Bareilly) 3-0, APS Noida bt Manas Sthali (Bareilly) 3-1, St Amtul Public School (nainital) bt Dayawati Modi Academy 1 (Modipuram) 2-0, APS Bareilly bt Tiny Tots Sr Sec School (Faizabad) 3-0, Dayawati Modi Academy II bt Ashok Academy (Meerut) 2-0.
