Prithvi Nath Basketball from Oct 2

NEW DELHI, Septemberr 25: Holders Punjab Police in men's section and Eastern Railway in the women's section will try to retain their titles in this year's all-India Prithvi Nath Memorial Basketball Tournament, which commences at the Ajmal Khan Park courts here on October 2.

Eight teams in the men's section, including runners-up Western Railway, Border Security Force, Tisco, Andhra Pradesh, ONGC and hosts Prithvi Nath Club have confirmed participation besides the Indian junior team, according to Harish Sharma, organiser of the tournament.

For the Indian juniors, this tournament will serve as a preparatory event as they will be competing in the junior ABC event soon after. The ABC is scheduled to be held in Calcutta between November 5 and 13.

Among the women participants, runners-up Andhra Pradesh, Central Railway, Delhi and Punjab teams will be competing. The women event will be played on the league basis and the men teams will fight it out on league-cum-knockout format.

Hindu-KMC final
Hindu College and Kirori Mal College made emphatic victories over their rivals Zakir Hussain College and Sri Ram College, respectively, and reached in the final of Captains' basketball tournament. In the women's section, IP College defeated Jesus & Marry College 46-38. Now in the final, IP College will take on St Stephen's College on September 28.

Boys section: Hindu College: 57 (Shailender 21, Samarth 12, Amit 10), Z H College: 42 (Harish 14, Parveen 13). KMC: 73 (Sanjay 14, Amit 14), SRCC: 54 (Aditya 16, Amit 14). Women section: IP College: 46 (Rashmi 18, Sonal 12), JM College: 38 (Anita 17, Pooja 12).

TYCA league
TYCA league, which was to begin on September 27, will now start from October 4 due to inclement weather at YSC ground.
