Shutt shocks Shandilya

AHMEDABAD, September 27: World number eight Ashok Shandilya of India was shocked by 15th ranked Chris Shutt of England 1261-1480 in the pre-quarter-finals of the Florsheim World Professional Billiards Championship here today.

In another match, 26th ranked Arun Agrawal of India, who was leading 688-618 at the half-way mark, went down fighting to world number six David Causier of England 1244-1411.

The 20-year-old Shutt, youngest and the tallest cueist in the professional circuit, had breaks of 51, 51, 67, 74, 84, 196, 193, 97 and 55 while the Indian registered breaks of 49, 48, 113, 102, 88, 106 and 67.

Shutt will now take on world number one Mike Russell of England, who annihilated Nalin Patel by 1434 points.

Number three Peter Gilchrist, trailing in the first session by 172 points to Peter Sheehan, resurrected his game in the second to win 1470-1115.

Geet Sethi led Subhash Agrawal in a third round late night unfinished match 907-311. Playing to a hall packed to its capacity, Geet hit up breaks of308 and 173 to completely dominate the first session. In another match Rupesh Shah was trailing Devendra Joshi 503-729, and so was Michael Ferreira to Robby Foldvari 309-571.

Results (3rd round): Mike Russell 2119 (151, 184, 149, 292, 198, 175, 147, 120, 197) bt Nalin Patel 685 (98); Peter Gilchrist 1470 (218, 104, 100) bt Peter Sheehan 1115 (250, 192, 130); David Causier 1411 (120) bt Arun Agrawal 1244 (112); Chris Shutt 1480 (196, 193) bt Ashok Shandilya 1261 (113, 102, 106).

Unfinished matches: Geet Sethi 907 (308, 173) leads Subhash Agrawal 311 (91); Roxtan Chapman 426 (81) leads Ian Williamson 309 (67); Robby Foldvari 571 (145, 120 unfinished) leads Michael Ferreira 309 (44); Devendra Joshi 729 (166, 107, 210) leads Rupesh Shah 503 (109).
