ULFA leader behind mass surrender gunned down

UNITED NEWS OF INDIA
GUWAHATI, September 27: United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) leader Rishiraj Sinha, considered the architect of the surrender process, was assassinated by motorcycle-borne militants on the city outskirts last night.

Rishiraj Sinha alias Anjan Jyoti Gogoi was driving his maruti van when the suspected ULFA cadres waylaid him and opened fire with automatic weapons, killing him on the spot, police sources said today.

The controversial leader of the banned outfit who himself had never surrendered, was the brain behind the recent surrender of more than 190 ULFA cadres in two batches, official sources confirmed. The sources admitted that his killing had dashed all hopes of any more surrenders in the immediate future.
