VADODARA, Sept 27: Even as the fast-unto-death by members of the United Employees of GCEL Union and SC/ST Welfare Associations of GCEL entered the second day on Sunday, Chairman of the Gujarat Labour Cell Jitendra Sukhadia called on the agitating workers and assured them of an early acceptance of their demands.Sunil Joshi, N C Patel, S H Panchal, S H Patel, N R Rohit are on a fast-unto-death from Saturday outside the company at Makarpura to press for a wage revision according to the Fifth Pay Commission recommendations and the Alternate Employment Scheme. Agitating workers are also demanding payment of longstanding dues and allowances, among other demands.
Talking to Express Newsline, Joshi said the workers feared a take-over, which would spell doom for them. Claiming that more than 800 GCEL employees boycotted meals on Sunday, he maintained that the stir would continue till their demands were honoured.
