DAV-8 score emphatic win

CHANDIGARH, Sept 27: The hosts DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8 asserted their supremacy in the meet by scoring a emphatic 7-0 win over DAV Public School, Shimla in the opening match of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Inter-School football competition held at DAV school ground here today.

Dinesh Sharma netted three goals (not hat-trick) while Kularjit and Harish Kumar shot two goal each for DAV-8.

In another match Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36 blanked Guru Nanak Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Sector 30, 3-0 to enter the next round of the meet. Sandeep shot two goals in the first quarter of the first session while Amritpal completed the tally in the opening minutes of the second session.

SD School, Sector-32 got a walkover from DAV Public School, Solan, in another match.

In the last match of the day, St Soldier School-28 defeated Shishu Niketan School-22 by one goal to nil to book a berth in the next round.

The match winner was scored by Angad in the 10th minute. Had St Soldier lads not missed the number of chances that came their way in the second session the margin of victory would have been more.

In volleyball being held at Sector 7 Sports Complex, Guru Nanak Khalsa Senior Secondary School-30 beat Shishu Niketan-22, 15-4, 15-0 while Laureate Public School, Shimla outplayed Shri Harkrishan Model School-38, 15-10, 16-14.

In another match, DAV Public School, Shimla got a walkover from New Public School-18.

B'ball trials held
Twenty-three boys and 20 girls reported for the trials conducted by Chandigarh Basketball Association at the DAV School-8 today, to select the Cha ndigarh boys and girls team for theYouth national basketball championship to be held at Surat in the second week October.

Fifteen probables in each section would be selected for the coaching camp. The final 12-member team will be selected during the camp.
