Sept 28: Indian men blanked Brunei 3-0 but their women counterparts went down to Thailand by a similar margin in their opening Group `G' preliminary league ties at the 14th Asian Table Tennis Championships at Osaka, Japan.National champion Chetan Baboor thrashed low Dai Yei 21-5, 21-11 and S Raman beat Wong Kai Siong 21-9, 21-11 before Arup Basak wrapped up the best-of-five tie with a 21-11, 21-10 win over Lhee Wei Onn, according to results provided by AFP.
India's clash with Pakistan will decide the qualifier from the group as the latter also beat Brunei 3-0.
But Indian women failed to take even a game off their Thai rivals. NR Indu lost to Nanthana Konwong 13-21, 12-21 in the first singles and MS Mythili was beaten 15-21, 13-21 with only Poulomi Ghatak showing some fight against Suttiluk Rattanaprayoon before going down 19-21, 24-26. Australia is the third team in the pool.
Strong contenders China and South Korea men scored facile victories. China beat United Arab Emirates 3-0 as did Korea againstSri Lanka.
