MUMBAI, SEPT 29: Members of the fourth estate today took exception to the ``instructions'' given to their colleagues covering the courts by a senior official from the Chief Minister's office regarding the reporting of the on-going case against Girish Vyas, son-in-law of Manohar Joshi. The issue was raised during Joshi's weekly media briefing after the cabinet meeting. Journalists told the Chief Minister that issuing such instructions amounted to direct interference in free and fair reporting of events.
During the course of the hearing of the case challenging the dereservation of a plot in Pune to facilitate Vyas, the high court had made certain observations, which were reported by a news agency. Apparently, a senior official from the Chief Minister's office then contacted a section of the media and asked them to seek clarification from Advocate General C J Sawant. The contention of the official was that the report given by the news agency was incorrect since the court never made such observations.
TheChief Minister assured that an inquiry into the charge would be conducted.
