Mixed fortunes for St. Stanislaus

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
Mumbai Sept 29: It was a day of mixed fortunes for St Stanislaus (Bandra) in the under-8 and under-10 semi-finals of the Inter-School football tournamnent, sponsored by Colgate Palmolive, on their homeground, today.Earlier their under-10 outfit went down fighting 0-1 to St Mary's ISC but their under-8 squad impressed when they scored a runaway 6-0 triumph over St Xavier's (Fort) later in the evening.

But the day's honour went to Ameya Shetye of St Mary's SSC. Ameya slammed four goals, including a hat-trick, as the Mazagaon outfit thrashed Our Lady of Remedy (Kandivli) 7-0 in the other under-8 semi-final tussle. Shelton Rodrigues was the other player to shine for the winners with three goals.Zaid Malkani was responsible for St Mary's ISC's lone goal in the clash against Stanislaus in the under-10 semi-final.

The under-8 tie between Stanislaus and St Xavier's (Fort) was an interesting affair. The 6-0 score, however, denies the tough fight put up by the Fort side.

Egged on by the parents from thesidelines, the two had an equal share of the exchanges. But better positional play and power behind their shots saw Stanislaus make light work of the tough fight they faced with three goals in each half.

Karan Kapoor showed good opportunism when he scored three goals. Rahul D'Mello, Keegan Pereira and Joshua Henriques were the other scorers.

Results: Under-8 (semi-finals): St Mary's SSC 7 (Ameya Shetye 4 including hat-trick, Shelton Rodrigues 3) bt Our Lady of Remedy (Kandivli) 0; St Stanislaus (Bandra) 6 (Karan Kapoor 3, Rahul D'Mello, Keegan Pereira, Joshua Henriques). Under-10 (semi-final): St Mary's ISC 1 (Zaid Malkani) bt St Stanislaus 0.

Schools cricket: The MSSA-Colgate Inter-School Harris Shield (under-16) cricket tournament will commence on October 27 and the Giles Shield (under-14) will begin on November 18.

Participating Schools must collect a copy of the draw and fixtures from the Association's Office during office hours only. Schools must submit their list of players alongwith identity cards for registration one week before the commencement of the tournament.
