NAGPUR, SEPT 30: In a politically significant move, Congress members of Parliament from Vidarbha region have decided to jointly give a call for creation of separate Vidarbha state. The call will be given in presence of the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Sharad Pawar, at a function organised by Datta Meghe at Wardha on October 2. The function will be attended by all eight Congress leaders elected to Lok Sabha earlier this year and two Congress members of Rajya Sabha. Three Republican Party of India MPs, who were also elected to Lok Sabha in alliance Congress and a lone independent, Vijay Darda, are also expected to attend the function.
Talking to reporters here, Meghe said the separate Vidarbha issue is bound to figure prominently in the speeches by those addressing the function. While newly elected Congress and RPI MPs have already made commitment to the cause of separate Vidarbha, Sharad Pawar has made his stand on this issue amply clear. But Congressmen still find it difficult to launch amovement under the party banner since the All India Congress Committee has not yet passed a resolution favour creation of a separate state of Vidarbha.
