Dalliance with wife: Ex-official denies plea against Patnaik

PRAKASH DASH
BHUBANESWAR, Sept 30: Former Chairman of Orissa Agro Industries Corporation Jaydev Panda on Tuesday said that he had not filed any affidavit stating his wife's alleged affairs with Chief Minister J B Patnaik.

Addressing a news conference here, Panda said that reports published in a section of the press saying that he filed an affidavit before Notary Madhu Madhab Jena at Bhubaneswar was false, fabricated and concocted. He said that the news items were published basing on ``a forged affidavit'' and the same was not signed by him.

``It is a conspiracy against my family and some politicians with vested interests are trying to disturb my family life,'' claimed Panda. He is considering legal action against the newspapers for defaming him and his family, he informed.

Panda's alleged affidavit said that Patnaik had asked him to join Congress in 1994 and appointed him Convenor of the Intellectual Cell of the party. It further said that Patnaik had promised Panda to make the latter a candidate from an Assemblyseat.

Panda asserted that he did not know any Notary with the name of Madhu Madhab Jena. He also denied having sent a copy of the affidavit to Congress president Sonia Gandhi apprising her over the matter. ``Whatever has been written about my wife is baseless,'' maintained Panda.

He said that his wife has been staying with him and that they have no difference.

When asked why the name of Chief Minister has been dragged into the controversy, Panda said, ``it may be to malign Patnaik''.

Panda also denied that the chief minister or his wife Jayanti Patnaik or any of his family members had ever visited his home.
