Digvijay alleges Sangh Parivar's role in nuns' rape

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

GUNA, Sept 30: The rape of four nuns in Jhabua district recently could be the result of a ``well-thought out strategy'' of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Chief Minister Digvijay Singh has alleged.

Talking to reporters last night at his native town Raghogarh about 40 kms from here, Singh said an investigation should be conducted to find out whether these organisations were behind the incident.

Alleging that the organisations like RSS believed in fascist way of functioning, Singh said similar incidents had taken place in neighbouring Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.

Meanwhile, the All India Democratic Women's Association today demanded a time-bound inquiry by a sitting judge of the high court into the incident.

Speaking to reporters, the association's general secretary, Brinda Karat, said the inquiry should also probe the role of RSS and its frontal organisations in the incident following a reported statement by the VHP justifying the rape of nuns andthreatening action against missionaries.

The association had also submitted a memorandum based on its findings to the state Home Minister Harvansh Singh, she added.
