VMC wants property charges from GEB

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Sept 30: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has demanded that it be paid market value of the property transferred to the Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) in 1988.

In a letter to Urban Development and Energy Minister Kaushik Patel, Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria has stated that the VMC would suffer a loss of more than Rs 10 crore, if its properties were not valued as per market rates.

Aloria had also demanded changes in the government notification, which was issued when the electricity department -- then under the VMC -- was transferred to the GEB. If effected, the corporation will get rates of the property as per market value, instead of book value at the time of transfer.

The civic chief has also sought a liberal approach towards the outstanding tax, amounting to Rs 4 crore (including interest), on sale of electricity duty, which the VMC owes GEB.

Aloria has also demanded that the state government release Rs 2.50 crore, which it had assured to pay on behalf of the Vadodara-based Yamuna mill.

The government had assured to pay the amount to revive the sick mill.

He has also complained that VMC consumers for agricultural connections were denied concessions, whereas those already drawing power from the GEB were being given the benefit.

Aloria had claimed that those who were earlier drawing electricity from the VMC had approached the court demanding that they be paid concessions amounting to Rs 41 lakh.
