The write technique
Technical writing is a genre by itself, and a conference in the city is being held on October 2 to discuss the work of technical writers and the possible problems encountered by them. This is to be the first meet of the Technical Writers of India (TWIN) that was formed last year and that has 170 members at present.

The TWIN is a professional outfit of technical writers involved in literature like user guides, industrial proposals and also gives help online for computer professionals.

In the course of their job, problems like planning their resources, strategies, tackling different assignments crop up and the meet is intended to get together these professionals from different cities like Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi to assess their situation. Also on the agenda are lectures on topics like freelancing, background of technical writers, their favourite websites and also some initiation talks for budding writers.

More than words
In a world that is getting louder every minute, can a silent performance work? From the mime presentation by Kamal Naskar at the AFMC Durga Puja celebrations, silence, it seems, can speak louder than words. Naskar performed six mime pieces - titled Romance, Thief, Bathroom, Puchchkawala, Imprisoned and Freedom Fighter. Each of these pieces were enacted with fluidity and grace - a performance that relied totally on our face's capacity to communicate a myriad emotions via physical expressions.

Et tu, De?
The Society Collection began with a bang. So what if the bang arrived an hour late. Slated for a 10 a.m. inauguration, chief guest Shobha De arrived fashionably late at 11 a.m. And this from a writer who harangued against the late arrival of Kajol and Shahrukh Khan at a function. Was De being rude, or was she using this late arrival as a tool to prove her celebrity status? Tsk, tsk De, remember what they say about those staying in glass houses...

Not that this made any difference to the people who mobbed her for autographs. The interesting thing about this exhibition-cum-sale was that though the products displayed were superb, it was the celebrities who were the centre of attraction. From De to pop artiste Anaida to actor-star Jackie Shroff, who had women swooning all over him. Not that he was complaining, despite the unbearable heat and the jacket he had on. In fact, when he remarked to one of the women stall-owners that Pune was very hot, pat came the reply, ``With you here, things are bound to get hotter than usual''. Coming from a senior citizen, Jackie, for once, was stumped for words.
