Security guard dies in mishap
A security guard of Bharat Agro Industries at Odhav Vepari Mahamandal, died when the trigger of his 12-bore loaded gun pressed by accident. Police said Jaiprakash Mayaram Sharma, 42, of Adinathnagar had gone to his security office for lunch, where the trigger got pressed accidentally. He died on the spot.

Driver caught for theft
Police registered a theft case against truck driver Sajan Vajabhai Rabari, who was trying to skip the routine security check, with powder used to manufacture medicine, worth Rs 72,000, at Torrent Pharmaceuticals, Phase No 1, in GIDC, Vatva. Police said the accused, of Jesodanagar, was trying to decamp with the chemical. While leaving the company, he did not tell security guard Hansraj Shripat Dubey that there was powder in the truck (GJ-2-T-8228). However, an alert Dubey checked the vehicle. The accused said he was to deliver the chemical to Rakesh Girdharbhai Patel at Madhuvan Society, Ghodasar, police said.

Mediator killed
A man, who was mediating between two rival groups, was done to death by one group which hit him on head with a sharp weapon near the G D High School crossing in Naroda. Police said Rajendra Kumar Surajmal Rajput, 26, of Dhanushdhar Society, Saijpur, had intervened when Manoj Govind Surti, Govind Maganbhai and Ashish Govingbhai attacked Dhanesh Harikishan Surti and his sons Vinesh and Divyesh with sharp weapons over some money matter. Dhanesh and his sons were hospitalised.

Pistol seized
Sabarmati police arrested Vijay Kumar Rammilan Upadhyay, of Mahavir Row House, Ranip, and recovered a countrymade pistol and a few cartridges. He was intercepted when he was passing through the police line area on a scooter.

Knocked down
Mukesh Atmaram Patel, 23, was knocked down by an autorickshaw near Bapunagar crossing, police said. Patel, who was on a scooter, was hit near Sagar Hospital. The rickshaw driver sped away. Further investigation was on, police said.
