Man sentenced to life in jail

MUMBAI, October 2: Sessions Court sentenced a man on Friday to life imprisonment for murdering his aunt four years ago. According to Special Public Prosecutor V Chavan, Shashikant Shantaram Bhandari murdered his aunt Vastababi Keni as he suspected her of practising witchcraft against him and his family on May 31, 1984. Bhandari told the police that he had repeatedly told his aunt to stop practising witchcraft but she refused.

On May 31, Shashikant went to his aunt's house at Chikkiwadi, Malavani, Malad. Not finding her at her home, he went tracking her to Malavani market. After spotting her with her children, he followed them back to their house. Immediately on reaching the house, he attacked his aunt with a sickle repeatedly. The lady died in the hospital. Meanwhile, Bhandari went to the police station with the blood in his hands and confessed to the murder.
