CHENNAI, OCT 2: PMK founder leader Dr S Ramadoss today reiterated the demand to dismiss the DMK government, saying Tamil Nadu was a `fit case' to use Article 356.Ramadoss said government interference in the judiciary was another misdeed by the DMK government.
In an indirect reference to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's remark that Article 356 should be scrapped, Ramadoss in a statement on Thursday said let the people decide whether to scrap Article 356 or not.
He said the relevance of Article 356 in the Constitution should be decided after a public debate on the extent to which the electorate had approved of its use in the past.
Ramadoss said the provision had been used to dismiss governments in Tamil Nadu four times in the past, and on three occasions, the action had been `approved' by the people in elections that followed it.
He said the only occasion when people disapproved of the use of Article 356 was when they returned the AIADMK headed by late M G Ramachandran to power after he was dismissedin 1980.
Ramadoss recalled that in the 1998 elections, the AIADMK-led alliance had campaigned on the promise that it would get the DMK government dismissed. ``The people have already approved its dismissal,'' Ramadoss pointed out.
