Mike Tyson suffers another blow

LAS VEGAS, Oct 2: Mike Tyson suffered another blow in his bid to return to the ring when the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) announced tomorrow's planned hearing on his state of mind has been postponed because of a delay in obtaining necessary psychiatric reports.

``The hearing has been postponed because the medical reports are not here yet,'' NSCA executive director Marc Ratner said in announcing the postponement yesterday.

The testing was ordered at a hearing on September 19 at which Tyson was told to take psychiatric tests and provide the commission with the resulting reports.

The 32-year-old former world heavyweight champion was banned from the ring when his licence was revoked after he bit off part of Evander Holyfield's ear in a world title fight in June 1997.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) was expected yesterday to set a new date to discuss the lifting of Tyson's suspension. But the Commission still had not received results of the evaluation it ordered as a perquisite toreinstatement consideration.

``I don't anticipate getting them today, but I anticipate some kind of law suit being filed by team Tyson,'' NSAC executive director marc ratner said yesterday.

Although tyson waived his right to confidentiality at a september 19 hearing, doctors who performed the evaluation in boston were withholding the results until they were assured it contents would remain confidential.

"I know it won't be released until dr. (ronald) schouten's concerns about its confidentiality are addressed," said georgia peirce, spokeswoman for massachusetts general hospital. "The report will not be released until that issue is resolved."

Nevada's open meeting law requires any support document used by a public official must be made public, a point nsac members said was explained to tyson.
