OSAKA, OCT 4: Wang Liqin put an end to Seiko Iseki's giant-killing run to win the men's singles title and wind up the Asian Table Tennis Championships with China's sixth gold medal on Sunday. The Chinese World No 6, who watched Atlanta Olympic dual gold medallist Liu Guoliang fall victim to Iseki, gained sweet revenge for his teammate with a 21-13, 21-7, 21-9 victory in the final.
It was 20-year-old Wang's first international singles title, following his victories in the men's team event and the mixed doubles trophy with Wang Nan this week.
China also won the women's team title, the men's doubles trophy through Ma Lin and Liu Guoliang, and the women's singles crown through World No 2 Li Ju.
Earlier in the day, Atlanta doubles champion Ryu Ji-Hye plucked the women's doubles gold medal with Lee Eun-Sil. Ryu, who won the gold in Atlanta with Park Hae-Jung, defeated her former doubles partner and Kim Moo-Kyo 21-17, 21-9 in an all-Korean final.
Earlier, Ryu and Lee shocked Chinese defending champions LiJu and Wang Nan 21-16, 14-21, 21-16 and then dashed any Chinese hopes by beating a Hong Kong-Chinese duo of Wong Chin and Wong Hui 21-12, 13-21, 21-14 on their way to the final.
Park and Kim eliminated the last local hope of Akiko Takeda and Mayu Kawagoe 19-21, 23-21, 21-17 in the other semi-finals.
It was only a second time that South Korea took the women's doubles title in the 14 Asian Championships, following the victory by former world champions Yang Young-Ja and Hyun Jung-Hwa in 1988.
