BANGALORE, Oct 4: State Janata Dal supporters of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda have urged him to renew his interest in the party affairs and initiate efforts to bring the various factions together for the forthcoming elections. Also, over two dozen legislators and partymen, including former MP and Gowda's son Kumaraswamy met here on Saturday to chalk out a strategy for an end to factionalism. The move has also been supported by two dozen other legislators who have conveyed to Kumaraswamy.
The group that met on Saturday, has also decided to write to Chief Minister J H Patel urging him to convene a Janata Dal Legislature Party (JDLP) meeting by October 20 to discuss the various issues that concern the party. In a significant move, clearly meant to bury the hatchet with state party president B L Shankar, the group has also supported the decisions taken at the party's office-bearers' meeting recently. The letter to the Chief Minister acknowledges the concerns expressed at the office-bearers' meeting andsaid that these concerns must be taken to represent those of the party workers as well.
Issues like power tariff and other development projects requiring the government's attention that figured at the party office bearers' meeting last week, were the common concerns of the party in general, they reportedly said in the letter. They reflected the unhappiness of the party worker with the functioning of the government in such matters hence request for the JDLP meeting to discuss these issues was made.
Saturday's meeting was preceded by an informal discussion at Kumaraswamy's residence a few days ago, in which only the core group loyal to Deve Gowda participated. This included ministers Varade Gowda, Venkatesh and Satyanarayana.
Former ministers B T Lalitha Naik and N M Nabi besides city legislator N Rajanna also attended Saturday's meeting.
