NASHIK, Oct 4: Heavy rains lashing many parts of Maharashtra for the past three days have claimed eight more lives during past 24 hours, taking the toll to 102 this monsoon.Three persons were killed and one seriously injured in a house collapse at Vanjarvadi in Bhoom taluka of Osmanabad district, while a youth died when lightning struck him at Barshi town in Solapur district on Saturday. Another person was killed by lightning in Sinnar taluka of Nashik district. At Jaintane in Dhule district, a woman was washed away in flood waters while two persons were killed after being struck by lightning.
Meanwhile, heavy rains accompanied by stormy winds continued to batter Dhule, Osmanabad, Solapur districts, Nashik city and its adjoining areas for the third consecutive day, disrupting normal life, power supply and inundating many low lying areas. Some houses were damaged in the Mauje-Dahivad area of Nashik and trees and electric poles were uprooted at many places. Solapur rural police said traffic between Solapurand Tuljapur has been diverted via Itkal-Mangrulroad as a bridge near Tamalwadi was submerged, blocking thousands of devotees on their way to Tuljabhavani temple in Tuljapur for Ashwin Poornima fair.
