Much-wanted man, three associates held

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, October 4: Amardeep Singh, who the police say belongs to the city-based Karnalia Gang and is wanted in several cases of robbery and attempt to murder, has finally been arrested. He is believed to have committed two robberies recently in Geeta Colony and Krishna Nagar.

The east Delhi police was tipped off around 8 p.m. on October 1 that Singh was loitering around the D-block park Krishna Nagar. Challenged by the Krishna Nagar police team -- which is to now receive a special official commendation -- led by sub-inspector Gagandeep, Amardeep apparently tried to fire from a country-made pistol but was overpowered.

The weapon and three live cartridges were seized from him and a case under the Arms Act was registered.

The police say Amardeep has since confessed to his involvement om the Geeta colony dacoity when he and his four accomplices forcibly snatched a Tata Sumo from Amit Dabar and his driver Jaswinder, both residents of Ambala. He has reportedly also admitted to robbing Sahana Aalam of Azad Nagar of jewellery worth Rs 1.5 lakh.

Three of his accomplices, Binta, Rammurthy and Parvinder were later picked up by the police. Amardeep was allegedly also involved in a number of other dacoities including those in Delhi Cantt, Moti Nagar and Mandir Marg. A case of attempt to murder was registered against him at the Delhi Cantt police station.
