New office for CPAA
The Cancer Patients Aid Association (CPAA), serving patients afflicted with cancer for a number of years, has now shifted its office to new premises. They have moved to 8, Uttam Towers, above Bullocks on Nagar Road. The new premises will house a detection centre with free check-up at regular intervals. People have been requested to take the benefit of the facilities. The new office was inaugurated on September 30.

Dandiya fever
After nine days of the Navratri festival, the Rotaract Club of Pune Riverside organised a Rotaract Riverside Dandiya '98 on October 1. Almost 5,000 Puneites frequented the festivities at the SSPMS grounds, dancing to the tunes of the Jet Set band. This dandiya is eight years old and is organised for a noble cause - to support the Rotaract Riverside Charitable Trust.

Free check-up camp
A free diabetes detection and awareness camp was organised at the Inlaks & Budharani Hospital on Sunday, September 20. Fifty-six patients were examined by Diabetologists and ophthalmologists. All patients were given free check-up for blood sugar levels along with an eye check-up and an ECG. The patients were given their prescriptions and advised on diet. Dr Sameer Malkani, Dr Mohan Magdum and Dr S Kulkarni conducted the camp. They were ably assisted by the student volunteers of St Mira's College.

Carry on dancing
The Lions Club of Pune Prime held a folk dance competition on September 27 at Tilak Smarak Mandir. A number of dance groups and cultural institutes participated in the function. The kids put up a show that was appreciated widely by the audience and the judges reportedly had a tough time deciding the winners. The participating groups were divided into various categories according to age group and size. The prizes were given away by the Lion district governor Narendra Bhandari. In the small group category, Bharati Vidyapeeth walked away with the honours and in the big group category the first prize was won by the OM group, with SNDT college being adjudged the runners-up.
