City Boys beat Gymkhana

NEW DELHI, October 4: City Boys Cricket Academy defeated A.R. Gymkhana by one wicket in an exciting match to enter the quarter-final of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Memorial cricket tournament at Hamdard Sports Ground, Gaziabad.

Batting first, Gymkhana scored 236 at the cost of seven wickets in the allotted 35 overs. Delhi's ex-Ranji player Manoj Singh remained the highest scorer with a brilliant knock of 78 which consisted of four boundaries and five sixes. Jayant Sanwal (31) and Arvind Dogra (27) were the other main scorers for Gymkhana.

City Boys reached the target of 237 losing nine wickets with two balls to spare. City Boys overcame a moment of scare when they were down by nine wickets and six runs remained in six balls. But left-hander Shiv Kumar saved the winner's day by reaching the target with a boundary and two singles. Shiv Kumar had earlier taken three wickets giving 43 runs during Gymkhana's innings.

Brief Scores: Gymkhana: 236 for 7 (Manoj Singh 78, Shiv Kumar 3/43, Deepak Kanojia 2/44, Maminder Singh 2/34) lost to City Boys: 237 for 9 (Maninder Singh 60, Devashihs Kaushik 59, Mukesh Yadav 33, Rajiv Punj 25, K.K. Dixit 3/49).

New Delhi: A six-member Indian team is leaving for Warsaw on Tuesday, to participate in the ninth world traditional karate championship to be held from October 8 to 10. Vizzy Singh, Jitesh Kumar, Rahul Kumar, Durjay Singh, Chandra Prakash Kumar and Balu are the members of the team.

India will field its athletes in the men's individual kumite, team kumite, men's individual kata, men's enbu and fuku-to events. Vizzy Singh will compete in the men's individual kata and men's enbu events while Jitesh Kumar will take part in the men's individual kumite and men's team kumite.
