Aussies a wicket away from glory
Australia were within striking distance of a historic innings victory over Pakistan in the first cricket Test at Rawalpindi yesterday. At stumps, Pakistan, needing 244 runs to make Australia bat again, was placed at 137 for nine with Salim Malik waging a lone battle at 48 and last man Saqlain Mushtaq unbeaten on 3.

Rios sweats it out for richest tennis prize
Chile's Marcelo Rios outlasted Andre Agassi over five sets to win the Grand Slam Cup and prize money of $ 1.3 million on Sunday. Rios, the world number three, was made to work for just under three hours before winning 6-4, 2-6, 7-6, 5-7, 6-3 when Agassi double-faulted on the Chilean's second match point.

Wang victorious
Wang Liqin put an end to Seiko Iseki's giant-killing run to win the men's singles title and wind up the Asian Table Tennis Championships with China's sixth gold medal on Sunday. The Chinese World No 6 won 21-7, 21-9 victory in the final.
